Utilization of circulating fluidized bed combustion ash to prepare supersulfated cement
Highlights The CFBC ash was suitable for preparation of super sulfated cement. The super sulfated cement could accommodate 70–75% CFBC ash. The [SO3]/[Al2O3] ratio was introduced to optimize the proportions of super sulfated cement.
Abstract The present study aims to introduce the circulating fluidized bed combustion (CFBC) ash as the source of aluminosilicate material for supersulfated cement (SSC). Contour maps were designed to optimize the proportion of CFBC ash-anhydrite-clinker by comprehensive considerations of strength, expansion and pore structure. The hydration products were characterized by XRD, TG-DSC and SEM methods. The CFBC ash content in SSC could be increased up to 70%, the corresponding clinker and added anhydrite contents should be set to approximately 20% and 10%, respectively. The main hydration products of SSC are ettringite, C-S-H, gypsum and portlandite. A value of [SO3]/[Al2O3] molar ratio in the range 0.8–1.2, is recommended for proportion optimization of SSC.
