Uncertainty and the design of building subsystems—A linear programming approach
Abstract This paper describes and demonstrates a method for solving resource or service allocation problems wherein supply or available material is constrained due to limited resources, energy requirements, or increased costs and where the demands for these services or subsystems are based upon user requirements or loadings that are estimated, projected, or otherwise probabilistic. It shows how, in application to building system design, the stochastic nature of the problem can be acknowledged to provide a more economic, realistic and efficient design.
