Seismic response of alluvial valleys for incident P, SV and Rayleigh waves
The seismic response of two-dimensional alluvial deposits for incident P, SV and Rayleigh waves is studied using Trefftz's method. The diffracted and refracted elastic wave fields are constructed with T-complete (T after Trefftz) families of solutions of the wave equation. Boundary conditions on deposit—half-space interface and those of free-surface on the irregularity and a portion of the half-space are satisfied in a least-squares sense. Some numerical results for surface ground motion are presented.
