AbstractWe present a distribution to approximate the maximum of a sequence of independent and identically Weibull distributed random quantities. Some properties of this distribution are shown. This distribution can also be used for other engineering applications. An illustrative numerical example estimating the maximum wind speed is presented. The distribution is also applied to data of the interoccurrence time of large earthquakes in a region in Mexico. It is concluded that the proposed distribution approximates well the maximum of a Weibull sequence.
