Introduction During the 'seventies, considerable investment was made in the erection of new office buildings in and around Paris. The modern styles were note-worthy for extensive use of glazing and of simple geometric forms which, in the opinion of many, was not in harmony with neighbouring buildings of an earlier epoch, the greater part of Paris having been built before, or at the turn of, the 20th century.
