A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Explores the causes, outcomes and remedies of cladding failure in its many forms, from life threatening component separation and glass breakage, to costly water intrusion and air infiltration problems. Demonstrates the cumulative effect of errors commonly made during the specification, design and installation stages of a cladding system through a case study of a 26 storey high-rise casino hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Outlines the project details, repair programme and resulting legal action taken. Suggests that as cladding systems and materials continue to develop the likelihood of failure will continue to increase.
