NETWORKING:
The Rank Xerox experience
Telecommuting raises a number of issues of concern to those responsible for facilities management. Some were outlined in a review of the recent CBI/British Telecom conference on homeworking (see Facilities Vol 6/No 9/September 1988). This article reviews the Rank Xerox networking programme and attempts to present the advantages and drawbacks of home or remote working. Its conclusion is that the benefits of networking can be considerable, but that achieving them requires a realistic commitment from both networkers and the ‘parent’ organisation.
