Provided are a vehicle travel system and vehicle travel control method for guiding a conveyance vehicle to a loading position without interference from obstacles. This vehicle travel system is provided with: an orientation input device (102) by which the operator of a loading machine (10) inputs the orientation of the body of a conveyance vehicle (20-1) in a loading position (LP-L, LP-R); a travel path calculation unit (1507) which calculates a travel path for stopping the conveyance vehicle (20-1) at the loading position (LP-L, LP-R) in the inputted orientation; and a vehicle control unit (205) which, in accordance with the travel path, controls travelling and stopping of the conveyance vehicle (20-1).
