Intelligent standpipe
A standpipe for drawing water from a mains water supply. The standpipe includes an inlet having a first coupling configured to enable the standpipe to be connected to a hydrant outlet of the mains water supply and an outlet having a second coupling configured to enable a water delivery hose to be connected to the standpipe. A flow meter is measures a volume of water flowing from the inlet to the outlet and a data logger is connected to the flow meter and records the volume of water measured. A global positioning system (GPS) module determines the location of the standpipe when the flow meter detects the water flow and a wireless communication module transmits the recorded volume of water and corresponding GPS location to a central monitoring facility.
