ARRESTING STRIP
A building component in the form of a timber slat or board is for use in forming a slip resistant pedestrian walking area as part of a building structure made from the slats. 5 The slat is provided with a first walking surface at a first level and an arresting barrier at a second level for arresting sliding movement along the first level when a person trips, so as to prevent falling when walking on the pedestrian walking surface thereby preventing or reducing the incidence of the person sustaining injury through slipping and sliding. The arresting barrier which extends upwardly from the first level of the 10 walking surface can have a multitude of different forms. One preferred form of the barrier is a rubber strip in the form of an insert which is received within a recess or groove formed in the upper surface of the timber slat. The rubber insert can have a number of different profiles or shapes. The advantage of the timber slats having the arresting barrier insert is to limit the distance that the foot of a person can slide over 15 the walking surface when a person loses their balance by the foot contacting the barrier to stop further sliding movement. 6903239 1 (GHMatters) P93825.AU.1 JMC
