A chair for the temporary supporting of building elements employed to create features in and/or to be embedded in a cast-in-situ concrete building slab, said chair comprising a support fixed to formwork for the creation of 5 said concrete building slab and an adjustable-height column, said column comprising a first length of rod having threading of a first handing and fixed to said support and a second length of rod having threading of a second, opposed handing and fixed to a said supported building element, threading at the free ends of said two said lengths of rod being screwably 10 engaged with opposed female threading at each end of a tubular barrel, rotation of said barrel in the appropriate sense causing said lengths of rod to be displaced out of or into said barrel, thereby altering the height above said formwork of said supported building element.
