Abstract An impact slider assembly for use with a guardrail system having at least one support post, a first rail, and a second rail said assembly comprising an impact slider device configured for attachment to the first rail, wherein the impact slider device is configured to substantially surround overlapping adjacent ends of the first rail and the second rail, wherein the impact slider device gathers and retains the first and second rails during a substantially longitudinally directed impact that causes telescoping of the first and second rails at said impact slider device, wherein the impact slider device is configured so movement of said impact slider device relative to the second rail, and/ or a corresponding support post, during said telescoping results in said impact slider device shearing the corresponding rail, or support post connections, so as to disconnect a first and second rail connection or a connection between the first and second rail and a support post.
