Embodiments relate generally to a trailer lock for use with a trailer having a tow hitch, the tow hitch having an aperture to receive a tow ball and a coupling axis extending through the centre of the aperture, and the trailer lock comprising: an actuator; a 5 locking plate coupled to the actuator; and a housing containing the actuator and locking plate; wherein the trailer lock is configured to be installed adjacent the tow hitch, so that when the actuator is engaged, the locking plate is moved to a position in which the locking plate intersects with the coupling axis of the aperture and hinders the decoupling of the tow hitch from the tow ball when the tow ball is received by the tow 10 hitch.
