A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A roller end assembly 50 for a retractable awning that has a canopy mounted on a roller tube that moveable between a retracted position and an extended position and biased in 5 the retracted position. The roller end assembly 50 comprises a shaft 52 having an outer end and an inner end, an end cap 72 rotatably mounted to the outer end of the shaft 52 that in use receives an end of a roller tube such that the roller tube and end cap 72 are rotatable about the shaft 52 when a flexible canopy is being rolled onto and from the roller tube, a ratchet gear wheel 90 mounted about and stationary to the shaft 52 and inwards of the end 10 cap 72, a pawl 92 having a gear wheel engaging part, a pawl pivot member 106 extending parallel to the shaft 52 and inwardly of the end cap 72 , and a pawl actuator shaft 108 extending parallel to the shaft 52 outwardly towards the end cap 72. Actuation of the pawl actuator shaft 108 causes the pawl 92 to pivot between a first ratchet position in which rotary motion of the roller tube in the roll out direction against the bias of the roller assembly is 15 permitted and rotary motion of the roller tube in the roll in direction is prevented by biased engagement of the pawl 92 and ratchet gear wheel 90 and a second free position in which rotational movement of the roller tube in the roll up direction is permitted.
