Abstract Disclosed is a transportable wear resistant modular roadway insert comprised of natural stone tiles supported on either a stiffened mild steel base plate or a reinforced concrete base. The mild steel base plate has steel plate edges to act as a containment border for the stone. The natural stone segments are bedded on a fine mesh then fixed/bonded to the steel or concrete support base using an epoxy resin based adhesive.
