An overshot gate assembly for use in a channel for controlling flow of water through the channel or maintaining a desired level of water upstream from the gate assembly or for controlling flow of water downstream from the gate assembly, the gate assembly comprising: a gate frame comprising a pair of spaced apart uprights to allow water to flow between the uprights; a gate member operable to be pivoted towards and away from the uprights wherein the gate member is: movable towards the uprights into an in-use raised position for preventing water upstream of the gate member from flowing past the gate member; and movable away from the uprights into a plurality of lowered positions to allow variable amounts of water to flow past the gate member; and a control arrangement mounted on the gate frame for controlling the movement of the gate member between the raised position and the plurality of lowered positions. 137 100 100 -- -130-" ~-140 112 114 110 Figure 2A Figure 2B
