A coupler 20 that couples two building materials, i.e. a doorframe 2 to a base member 8 and a reinforcement member 7 of a wall 4, placed with a gap therebetween comprises a coupling member 22 wherein: a locking unit that can lock with a member 21 to be locked disposed on one building material along the thickness direction orthogonal to the direction of the gap is provided on the one building material side end, and a joining unit that is moved in the thickness direction with a drill screw 30, which is a joining means, and is joined to the other building material is provided on the other building material side end. In a state in which the joining unit is not joined to the other building material, the locking unit can move in the thickness direction with respect to the member to be locked and, by way of the joining unit moving in the thickness direction with the drill screw 30 and joining to the other building material, the locking unit moves with respect to the member 21 to be locked in a direction having a component of the thickness direction and locks with the member to be locked. Thus, two building materials arranged with a gap therebetween can be joined in an immobile state in the thickness direction orthogonal to the direction of the gap, and a coupler for building materials, a coupling structure for same, and a coupling method for same with which this coupling operation can be performed with ease can be provided.
