Device for facilitating the safe and easy installation of drain test plugs
Abstract: Testing sanitary drainage or sanitary plumbing requires the use of a test plug. It requires the test plug to be installed correctly otherwise under pressure from air or water it may be dislodged and forced accidentally and irretrievably down the drain, in addition the test plug other parts and tools used in the installation or the cap on the end of the test plug to release the water after testing may also accidentally be dropped down the drain. Other factors that may make the installation of a test plug subject to it being easily dislodged include: poorly maintained test plugs, missing end caps and tightening lugs, and the inexperience or inability of the installer (apprentices) to install it sufficiently tight and correctly to withstand the test pressure. The innovative device can prevent the loss of the test plug, or the cap at the end of the test plug if it becomes dislodged or during the draining of the drain pipe under test. The job of testing drains and stack work is typically an apprentice's task if they are available. Apprentices are often new to the task and are not sure at all as to how tight the test plug should be, and due to inexperience often fumble, dropping tools down the drain, (Tradesman too) the cap on the end of the test plug and even the test plug itself, in addition to allowing large amounts of water to escape onto the work area creating a safety hazard, a nuisance, a health hazard if raw sewage is backed up, and even water damage.
