A fluid isolator is disclosed, the isolator being as disclosed in Australian Patent No 2013 308 381 and including a second bleed valve (15) connected in parallel with the manually actuated bleed valve (14) of the abovementioned patent. The second bleed 5 valve is actuatable by an electric circuit having a sensor arranged to detect a predetermined condition. Preferably a delay (TS) is incorporated and the predetermined condition is a fire. An hydraulic system (1) incorporating the above fluid isolator (10) is also disclosed. A method of protecting from fire an item of machinery having the hydraulic system and an onboard fire deluge system, is also 10 disclosed. The method comprising the steps of: following the detection of the fire by the onboard fire deluge system, depressurising the machinery hydraulic system, and delaying the depressurising by a time delay sufficient to permit a machinery operator to place the item of machinery in a park condition.
