Abstract A damper assembly for a sliding building element, the assembly comprising a rack gear and a reduction gear train, one of which is operatively connected to the sliding building element, and the other of which is stationary, wherein the reduction gear train has an input pinion gear adapted for engagement with the rack gear, and an output gear engaged with a rotary damper, wherein, in use, engagement between the rack gear and reduction gear train causes the rotary damper to damp sliding movement of the sliding building element; and wherein the rack gear, reduction gear train and the rotary damper collectively have a low form factor and wherein the reduction gear train prolongs service life of the rotary damper. ir co co CN
