Abstract A traffic boom gate assembly capable of spanning at least two traffic lanes and supporting at least one visual alert device along said span; said boom gate also being frangible upon impact by a motor vehicle; wherein said boom gate assembly comprises a gate arm, a pivot mechanism attached to said gate arm and an anchor mechanism attached to said pivot mechanism; wherein said pivot mechanism includes a spigot that is made from two or more parallel arranged spaced apart hollow metal tubes that are adapted to fit inside a pivoting end of said gate arm.
