The invention relates to a padlock basic assembly kit for assembling a padlock in a configuration that can be selected from a plurality of configurations, wherein the configurations differ with respect to the type of locking cylinder used in the padlock and optionally also with respect to the type of locking bar used in the padlock, said padlock basic assembly kit comprising a lock body, at least two different locking cylinder adapters, and a closure plate. A first of the at least two locking cylinder adapters has a receiving channel which is designed to receive a locking cylinder of a first type, and a second of the at least two locking cylinder adapters has a receiving channel which is designed to receive a locking cylinder of a second type. The lock body has a locking cylinder receptacle which extends along a longitudinal direction into the lock body and is designed to selectively receive the first locking cylinder adapter with a locking cylinder of the first type inserted therein, the second locking cylinder adapter with a locking cylinder of the second type inserted therein, or a locking cylinder of a third type. The closure plate is designed to close the locking cylinder receptacle in such a way that it substantially completely covers a locking cylinder received in the locking cylinder receptacle.
