GRAVITY FOUNDATIONS FOR TIDAL STREAM TURBINES
An arrangement for mounting at last one tidal turbine (l) and its associated support structures (4) in a river or sea bed, characterised by mounting the turbine (1) and associated support structures (4) upon a base/foundation structure (8, 15) of such weight as to involve gravitational forces of such magnitude as to be sufficient to withstand forces acting in such manner as to tend to displace the turbine (1) and its associated support structures. (4, 8, 15), the base/foundation structure being pre-assembled and is of such construction as to be transportable to a required location of installation for lowering to the sea or river bed. Conveniently the transportation is by means of an installation vessel (9) incorporating a facility (12, 13) for lowering the entire assembly of a turbine (1), a support column (4) therefor, and the base/foundation structure (8, 15) in a controlled manner to rest at a desired position on the river or sea bed (SB).
