A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The Beaver Control Gate is designed to prevent Beavers (Beaver Eager) from building blockages inside a culvert. This guard was designed for permanent placement at the upstream opening of a culvert to prevent Beaver from entering the culvert and also provides an effective means for removing the obstruction which the Beaver will build against the guard. The Beaver Control Gate is a two piece apparatus with one unit mounted permentaly on the upstream end of the culvert and the second is a removable gate consisting of longitudinally extending, evenly spaced rigid steel bars. The spacing of the bars is sufficient to extend across the culvert opening to prevent the Beaver from entering the structure and allow unrestricted fish passage. The gate can be vertically raised and locked to allow the user to remove the obstruction and then let it back down. The Gate section can be removed for winter storage or after Beaver activity ceases. This apparatus is designed to drastically reduce the cost of culvert maintenance, eliminate damage to the structure that occurs when backhoes/excavators are used to remove a blockage and minimize environmental damage from siltation entering the watercourse.
