A gable starter roofing shingle has a length, a width, a back surface, and a front surface opposite of said back surface. A plurality of score lines extend along the back surface across the width of the shingle and are equally spaced along the length of the shingle. The score lines divide the length of the shingle into a plurality of vertical sections each having approximately the same width. The gable starter roofing shingle is breakable along the score lines to form at least two gable starters for starting separate courses of shingles on roof.
