A rung (34) which can be installed in a ladder (12) is disclosed which comprises a first plate (32) having first and second ends (36, 38), each of the first and second ends having a relief tab (44) and an opening (46), and a second plate (32), the second plate being identical to the first plate, the first and second plates being nestable such that the relief tabs of the first plate insert through the openings of the second plate to form the rungs.
