SEMI-PERMANENT STEP LADDER FOR TRUCK ACCESS
This invention improves the safety on existing methods for accessing the deck of a transport trailer. The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed, are defined in the text and drawings of this document. = Abstract = Background = Summary = Description = Drawings The invention provides a semi permanent method for use on transport truck and fifth-wheel trailer enabling the operator to safely access the bed of the truck using three points of contact at all times. The invention consists of a main frame which can easily be moved between the trucks stake pockets enabling access to any position of the truck bed. Included with the frame is a ladder which is hinged and locked in position to blend with the profile of the trailer rub rail. The ladder may be hinged down by releasing the safety catch enabling the operator to climb up to the trailer deck level safely by using the steps and safety rail. The mechanism can be locked in position with a padlock as an anti theft deterrent. Background of the invention In the past, numerous accidents have occurred when a truck operator has tried to gain access to the bed of a transport truck. Ladders have been used in the past that are either permanently positioned in one place or moveable which require the operator to manually remove and find storage for the ladders during transportation.
