The invention discloses a setting method for a straight-going waiting area of a motor vehicle at a signalized intersection. The setting method comprises the steps of (1) judging whether the straight-going waiting area is set by surveying and calculating the traffic flow; (2) surveying the size of the intersection to judge whether the straight-going waiting area can be set; (3) setting a traffic marking line of the straight-going waiting area; (4) setting a signal timing phase sequence of the intersection, wherein at the intersection of the straight-going waiting area, the signal phase sequence scheme is as follows: the first phase is vehicle flow turning left in the south-north direction, and at the moment, straight-going vehicles at a south entrance and a north entrance enter the straight-going waiting area; the second phase is a straight-going vehicle flow in the south-north direction, and at the moment, pedestrians are released simultaneously; the third phase is the vehicle flow turning left in the east-west direction, and at the moment, straight-going vehicles at an east entrance and a west entrance enter the straight-going waiting area; and the fourth phase is straight-going vehicle flow in the east-west direction, and pedestrians in the east-west direction are released simultaneously. The setting method disclosed by the invention has the advantages that under the premise without changing the geometrical conditions of the signalized intersection, the passing capability of the straight-going phase can be obviously improved and the purposes of reducing the average delay of the vehicles and relieving traffic jam of the intersection are achieved.
