The invention relates to the field of building materials and particularly discloses a novel light sound-proof building material and a preparation method thereof. The building material is prepared from the following raw materials: diatomite, magnesium oxide, plant fiber, mica powder, ceramic powder, gypsum powder, quartz sand, cement, anhydrous magnesium chloride powder, a saponifier, a wetting agent, a coalescing agent, a concrete admixture, rock wool and water and the like. The invention adopts the technical scheme that the building material is particularly suitable for being used as a sound-proof building material for a modern building which not only is high in sound-proof performance and good in damping effect, but also has the characteristics of smooth surface, high convenience in moulding, high adhesive force, moistureproof, waterproof and fireproof properties and the like, and is high in aging resistance, difficult to fall and high in stability; the building material is small in use level of the coalescing agent, safe and environmental-friendly, does not contain harmful substances such as formaldehyde and does not cause harm to human health and environment. The building material provided by the invention is simple in manufacturing process, convenient to operate and long in service life and is an ideal building material which is good in comprehensive performance.
