The invention discloses an alarming method and device for overflowing of a water tank. The alarming device comprises an installation box, an impeller, a sound producing mechanism and an overflowing recognizing mechanism. The impeller and the sound producing mechanism are connected in the installation box and are in transmission connection; after the height of the liquid level in the water tank exceeds a preset height value, water enters the water tank continuously and overflows, the overflowing recognizing mechanism senses the overflowing condition and acts to enable inlet water flow led out of a water inlet device of the water tank to impact the impeller and drive the impeller to rotate, and the impeller rotates to drive the sound producing mechanism to produce prompting sounds. According to the alarming method and device for overflowing of the water tank, the mechanical structure transmission mode that the inlet water flow drives the impeller to rotate is utilized, the function of making the sound producing mechanism conduct alarming and prompting is achieved, the structure is very simple, the manufacturing cost is low, the influence from whether a power source is input in the whole device or not does not exist, use is convenient, and functions are reliable.
