FLUORIDE SINTERED COMPACT FOR NEUTRON MODERATOR, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAID FLUORIDE SINTERED COMPACT
A fluoride sintered compact suitable as a moderator that generates therapeutic neutron beams for eliminating tumors by irradiating the affected site in the deep parts of the body with high-energy neutron beams of which the speed is reduced. The fluoride sintered compact for a neutron moderator is formed from MgF2 having a dense polycrystalline structure, and has a mechanical strength in which the bulk density is 2.90 g/cm3 or greater, the bending strength is 10 MPa or greater, and the Vickers hardness is 71 or greater.
