The invention discloses a building block and a preparation method thereof. The building block is composed of following components, by weight: 40-50% of cement, 15-25% of limestone powder, 10-15% of coal slag, 3-5% of silicon powder, 0.5-1% of a reinforcing powder, 15-20% of ceramic granules and a proper amount of water. The preparation method includes following steps: pouring the cement and the limestone powder into a stirrer, in which water has been added, with stirring; adding the coal slag and the ceramic granules according to the proportion with stirring; adding the silicon powder and the reinforcing powder with uniformly mixing and stirring; and performing a slurry discharging process to obtain the finish product of the building block.
