The invention discloses a self-embedding type building block for upright embankment ecological remediation and an ecological remediation method. The self-embedding type building block is a columnar solid core body formed by naturally combining a sector-shaped front crown and arc streamline concave-convex self-embedding peripheries, wherein the shape of the left concave-convex self-embedding periphery is matched with the shape of the right concave-convex self-embedding periphery, and the left concave-convex self-embedding periphery and the right concave-convex self-embedding periphery are in similar fishbone shapes and are in bilateral symmetry; the left side and the right side of the tail of the self-embedding type building block are each provided with an interlinking insertion hole, a taper hole is formed in the front middle portion of the self-embedding type building block, and the interlinking insertion holes and the taper hole penetrate through the self-embedding type building block in the depth direction. When an ecological embankment is laid, building blocks on the same layer are staggered front and back to achieve mutual limitation, building blocks on the upper layers and the lower layers are laid in a line pressing mode, and the interlinking insertion holes are fixed in an alignment mode. As repairing materials have the continuous and comprehensive water vapor and gas permeability, the upright embankment can effectively reduce the side pressure of soil water on the outer side, running water erosion is resisted, wave energy is absorbed, plants can grow in the upright embankment, ecological fish shelters can be constructed, and the ecological embankment (slope) with a stable embankment body, a green shore and water and soil conservation is constructed accordingly.
