The invention discloses an automatic salvage ship for garbage on a water surface, belonging to the technical field of environmental sanitation equipment. The ship is in a left and right symmetrical structure, and is composed of a ship body, and a salvage device, a direction control device, a power supply, a power device and a power transmission device which are mounted on the ship body. Power is transmitted to an impeller by a motor through a worm rod and a worm wheel; the impeller rotates to push the ship body to move frontwards; a steering wheel is connected with a small belt wheel; a large belt wheel is connected with a rudder; the steering wheel rotates leftwards and rightwards, and the rudder is driven by a belt to swing leftwards and rightwards, so that the movement direction of the ship body is controlled; a low-speed motor is connected with a salvage net II at the front end of the ship body and the salvage net II is connected with a salvage net I through a tapered gear; and the frontward and backward rotation of the low-speed motor is controlled by switching on and off the power supply, so that the salvage net I and the salvage net II can swing back and forth.
