The invention provides an illuminating instrument which has high maintainability for a light source and a high degree of safety, can handle a wide range of applications, and has a superior visual effect with indirect light by changing the angle of irradiation of light emitted by the light source and the angle of irradiation of light to the outside. The illuminating instrument is formed from an illuminating instrument main body having a substantially L-shaped cross-section, a light source that forms a light irradiating unit, a first reflective unit, a second reflective unit, and an opening that forms a light irradiating opening. The constitution is such that the light source is disposed in the deepest center part of a vertical light guide unit and is oriented toward the inside of the vertical light guide unit, the first reflective unit is disposed at an inclination in the proximity of one corner part of the vertical light guide unit and a horizontal light guide unit, and furthermore, the second reflective unit is disposed at an inclination in the vicinity of the deepest corner part of the horizontal light guide unit that is oriented toward the first reflective unit.
