The low-heat-conductivity chromium-free composite brick is composed of a working layer and an insulating layer, the working layer is prepared from fused magnesite with the particle size ranging from 5 mm to 3 mm, fused magnesite with the particle size ranging from 3 mm to 1 mm, fused magnesite with the particle size ranging from 1 mm to 0.088 mm, hercynite with the particle size ranging from 0.5 mm to 2.5 mm, fused magnesite of which d<95> is smaller than 0.088 mm, a magnesium chloride solution and alkaline pulp waste fluid; a composite pore former is added to the insulating layer on the basis of the working layer; the working layer and the insulating layer are separated for wet grinding, the working layer and the insulating layer are pressed together to form a green body, drying is conducted on the green body, sintering is conducted on the dried green body at the temperature ranging from 1560 DEG C to 1580 DEG C, and a finished product is obtained. According to the low-heat-conductivity chromium-free composite brick and the preparation method thereof, the fused magnesite and the hercynite are taken as the main raw materials, high temperature sintering is conducted, and the working layer has the performances of high temperature resistance and heat shock resistance; the insulating layer adopts a lightweight and high strength structure, the composite pore former is added on the basis of the materials for the working layer, on the basis of ensuring the strength of the insulating layer, the volume density of the insulating layer is reduced, the porosity is enlarged, the heat conductivity coefficient is reduced, and therefore the overall heat conductivity coefficient of the working layer and the insulating layer is reduced.
