A purpose of the present invention is to provide an agent for lowering the vapor pressure of water, the agent being safe, readily mingling with sealing water, and being usable even in cold districts. The agent comprises urea, a surfactant, purified glycerol, and either water or alkaline reduced water, wherein the purified glycerol is glycerol obtained by purifying waste glycerol having ethanol, an oil or fat, water, and a carbide by distillation. The method for preventing seal breakage in a drain trap T using an agent for lowering the vapor pressure of water comprises introducing the vapor pressure lowering agent so that the sealing water part of the drain trap T has a liquid level which is not below the lower limit for sealing water retention.
