The present invention provides a polymer modified dry powder mortar. The polymer modified dry powder mortar comprises the following components in percentage by mass: 75.3-84.9% of raw materials, 0.01-0.02% of redispersible emulsion powder, 0.02-0.05% of a water-retaining thickener, 13.6-24.5% of cement, 1.2-1.5% of cellulose ether. The water-retaining thickener comprises the following components in percentage by mass: 55-85% of monomer polymer and 25-40% of an initiator. According to the polymer modified dry powder mortar provided by the present invention, the ratio of bending strength to compressive strength of the dry powder mortar is less than 3, the compressive strength is 7-15 Mpa, and the cost is low. The polymer modified dry powder mortar provided by the present invention has excellent bonding strength, water-retaining property, frost resistance and crack resistance, and meanwhile the construction workability of the mortar is improved.
