A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A retractable handle arrangement comprises a handle 10 movable between stowed and deployed positions, a motor 30 and transmission mechanism 32 to couple the motor 30 to the handle 10 and exert a force on the handle 10 greater than a predetermined force. Preferably the force exerted is greater during an initial deployment phase and than during a second subsequent phase. The transmission mechanism preferably comprises an eccentric cam 38 rotating about an axis 42, the cam engages with a rocker arm 40 which rotates about axis 48 and applies a force to operating member (28 Fig 2B) located on the handle. The handle 10 then rotates about axis 24 and preferably comes to a gradual stop. Spring 26 returns the handle to the stowed position once it has been activated to open the door. The handle may have a cover. Also claimed is a method of deployment and a handle that is deployed at a moderated force or speed. The arrangement is used when the handle is frozen to the surround trim and requires a greater force to break through the ice.
