According to the technical scheme, the preparation method is characterized by comprising the following steps: carrying out material blending according to a mass ratio of ferrochrome slag to silicon carbide being 100:(0.5-1), and carrying out ball milling with a ball mill to obtain ferrochrome slag powder of which the particle size is smaller than or equal to 100 micrometers; carrying out material blending according to a mass ratio of the ferrochrome slag powder to carbon powder being 100:(2.5-4) for 0.3-0.5 hour, so as to obtain mixed powder; adding the mixed powder into a vacuum arc furnace, heating to 1580-1760 DEG C, and carrying out heat preservation for 3-5 hours; removing an upper scum layer, carrying out furnace cooling to room temperature, and crushing the cooled product to obtain the platy Cr7C3. The preparation method is simple in process, low in production cost, and free of special equipment demand; the platy Cr7C3 obtained according to the preparation method is not only high in purity and crystallinity, but also complete in crystal grain growth and development and high in densification degree.
