The method is characterized in that a front pool, a water inlet pool, a water inlet pool partition pier, a water inlet pool bottom plate, a pump house and a water pump unit of the single-purpose pump station are retained; a single-layer channel of a water outlet pool of the single-purpose pump station is transformed into an upper layer channel and a lower layer channel; a rear wall of the open type water inlet pool of the single-purpose pump station is broken through to enable an inlet of the lower layer channel of the water outlet pool to be communicated with the water inlet pool, an outlet of the lower layer channel of the water outlet pool is communicated with a water outlet ditch, and a control gate is arranged at the outlet of the lower layer channel of the water outlet pool; a round hole communicated with the lower layer channel of the water outlet pool is formed in the bottom face of the upper layer channel of the water outlet pool, a round hole cover plate is arranged, and the control gate is arranged at an outlet of the upper layer channel of the water outlet pool; by dispatching different opening and closing combinations of the control gates and the round cover plates of the water inlet and outlet pools, the transformed pump station can be applied to lift irrigation and drainage and automatic water diversion and drainage.
