The invention discloses a blast furnace taphole clay and a preparation method thereof. The blast furnace taphole clay is characterized by being composed of the following components in parts by weight: 15-20 parts of calcium zirconate with a particle size of 3-0 mm, 5-8 parts of corundum with a particle size of 1-0 mm, 10-15 parts of sillimanite with a particle size of 1-0 mm, 8-15 parts of ferric magnesium oxide with a particle size of 0.5-0 mm, 8-13 parts of partial clay powder, 3-7 parts of cobalt aluminum oxide powder, 5-10 parts of cutting powder, 7-25 parts of graphite powder, 5-10 parts of composite charcoal powder, and 1-2 parts of medium-temperature asphalt powder. The blast furnace taphole clay can protect that the particle size of a taphole is table and not easy to change, and tapping is stable; and in addition, the usage properties and operation properties of the blast furnace taphole clay in the process of long-term storage do not decrease.
