The invention discloses a binder applicable to surface decoration before firing of glazed tiles and a preparation method of the binder. The binder comprises, in percentage by weight, 2%-5% of bentonite, 5%-10% of potassium feldspar, 2%-5% of quartz powder, 1.5%-2.5% of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, 25% of glycol and the balance of water, the mixture is added to a ball miller to be subjected to ball milling for 10 hours, slurry is sieved through a 160-mesh vibrating sieve after the fineness reaches 320 meshes and screen residues are lower than 0.5%, and then the slurry is conveyed to a production line to be used. The glaze slurry performance of the binder is adjusted by changing the proportion of bentonite to methyl to meet the use requirements of production printing; the proportion of bentonite to potassium feldspar to quartz is adjusted, and the high-temperature firing temperature of the binder is controlled, so that the binder can keep viscosity at low temperature and the effect and the transparency of candy glaze cannot be influenced after high-temperature firing; besides, the binder effectively eliminates the blowing-away phenomenon of dry granules.
