The invention relates to a waterproof building material and a preparation method thereof. The material is prepared from components in parts by weight as follows: 100-120 parts of water, 30-50 parts ofcement, 10-15 parts of calcium stearate, 10-15 parts of sodium silicate, 10-15 parts of modified calcium carbonate, 5-10 parts of phenolic resin, 5-10 parts of latex powder, 1-3 parts of a dispersingagent and 2-6 parts of a defoaming agent. The waterproof building material has good waterproof performance on buildings after being used, and is low in manufacturing cost, simple in construction process, low in operation requirement and short in construction time, the working efficiency is improved, and the service life of the buildings is longer after the waterproof building material is appliedto the buildings due to the excellent characteristics of the waterproof building material.
