The invention provides a river ecological greening system and a construction method thereof. The river ecological greening system comprises hard revetments arranged on two opposite sides of a riverway, environment-friendly plant growth blankets and gabion retaining walls. A plurality of through holes communicating with soil at the bottoms of the hard revetments are formed in a region, located above a normal water level of a river, of the hard revetments. The environment-friendly plant growth blankets are laid on the region, located above the normal water level of the river, of the hard revetments. The gabion retaining walls are constructed on a region, located below the normal water level of the river, of the hard revetments. The environment-friendly plant growth blankets can provide stable growth matrixes for plant growth, plant root systems on the environment-friendly plant growth blankets can be directly connected with the soil under the hard revetments through the through holes, the gabion retaining walls can purify river water through a contact oxidation method and becomes a growth matrix for aquatic plants, and therefore the river ecological greening system play roles in recovering river vegetation belts, reconstructing and improving river biological habitats and restoring natural habitats and natural scenes of the river.
