The invention discloses a building material for 3D printing and relates to the technical field of building materials. The building material comprises 20 to 40% of cement, 40 to 60% of sandstone, 1 to8% of quartz powder, 0.01 to 0.2% of an additive, 2 to 8% of silica fume, 0.01 to 1.5% of a composite stabilizing agent, 10 to 20% of water, 0.01 to 0.16% of a water reducing agent, 0.1 to 1.2% of fibers and 0.1 to 0.8% of a retarder. The preparation method comprises the following steps: mixing the cement, the sandstone, the quartz powder, the silica fume, the retarder and the fibers to obtain a mixed material A; mixing the water reducing agent and water to obtain a material B; and mixing the materials A and B to obtain the 3D printing material. According to the embodiment of the invention, the workability of the printable building material can be improved, the prepared building material is printed in various parameter ranges limited by the use method, and the smoothness of the printing process and the structural stability of the 3D printing material can be guaranteed.
