The invention discloses a soil stabilizer, which is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 8-10 parts of cement, 8-12 parts of red mud, 2-3 parts of sodium sulfate and 1-2 parts ofcalcium acetate, wherein the red mud is subjected to a drying treatment at 70-80 DEG C, and the cement is PO42.5 cement. The invention also discloses a preparation method of the soil stabilizer. Thepreparation method comprises the following steps: firstly, drying red mud at 70-80 DEG C; weighing the components according to a weight ratio, then mixing and stirring the components to obtain a mixture; and carrying out a ball-milling treatment on the mixture to obtain the product, wherein the stirring time ranges from 20 to 30 minutes, and the ball milling time ranges from 90 to 120 minutes. Byoptimizing the dosage of each component, the soil stabilizer with high early strength and high heavy metal removal rate can be obtained.
