The invention discloses a cleaning device and method used for an ancient city wall. The cleaning device comprises a base, a rotation assembly is arranged at the top of the base and rotationally connected with a cleaning mechanism, the cleaning mechanism comprises vertical adjusting assemblies, a transverse adjusting assembly and cleaning pieces, the transverse adjusting assembly is movably connected between the vertical adjusting assemblies, and the cleaning pieces are fixedly connected to the transverse adjusting assembly. The method includes the steps that a, cleaning points are preset; b, the cleaning device is placed; c, the wall surface of the ancient city wall is cleaned; and d, the remaining cleaning points are cleaned. By the adoption of the device and method, weeds are automatically cleaned away, time and labor are saved, due to the arrangement of the rotation assembly, the cleaning pieces can be better attached to the wall surface of the ancient city wall, and through arrangement of the vertical adjusting assemblies and the transverse adjusting assembly, the cleaning pieces can quickly clean the weeds away on a large scale.
