The invention discloses a method for measuring and calculating the design height of a debris flow silt arrester. The measuring and calculating method comprises the following steps: firstly, respectively determining the width of a debris flow channel, the maximum allowable height of a sand blocking dam, the controlled back-silting horizontal length behind the sand blocking dam, the original ditch-bed specific descent and the silt rushing-out amount; the method comprises the following steps: firstly, setting a sediment storage dam, then preliminarily drawing up the height of the sediment storagedam, substituting obtained parameters into a calculation formula of the back-silting ratio drop and the back-silting horizontal length behind the sediment storage dam, then comparing the calculated back-silting horizontal length with the controlled back-silting horizontal length to determine whether to perform the next round of calculation or not, and finally determining the design height of thesediment storage dam. The method is based on the silt retaining dam back-silting ratio reduction considering the silt rushing-out amount. According to the method, the influence between the sediment rushing-out amount, the original gully bed specific drop, the gully width, the sediment storage dam back-silting specific drop, the sediment storage dam back-silting horizontal length and the sediment storage dam design height is comprehensively considered. Meanwhile, specific calculation parameters can be obtained through a feasible method, a basis is provided for debris flow sediment storage dam design, and the method adapts to actual engineering design requirements.
