The invention relates to the technical field of elevators, in particular to a compact type steel structure elevator shaft which comprises at least four shaft stand columns, an elevator lift car system, an elevator landing door and a car door system; a shaft framework is formed among the shaft stand columns; the elevator lift car system, the elevator landing door and the car door system are positioned in the shaft framework; each of the shaft stand columns is made of angle steel; the shaft stand columns which are far away from the elevator landing door are inner stand columns; an inner transverse beam is connected between the inner walls of two adjacent inner stand columns; a shaft stand column which is close to one side of the elevator landing door is an outer stand column; the elevator shaft further comprises a lateral transverse beam arranged on the left and right sides and connected with the inner and outer stand columns; one end of the lateral transverse beam is connected with a corresponding inner stand column; and the other end of the lateral transverse beam is connected with the corresponding outer stand column through a gusset plate. The compact type steel structure elevator shaft can increase the space utilize ratio, enables the net size of the left and right sides in the elevator shaft to become larger, and facilitates expansion and enlargement of the door opening size of the car door system.
